This colorful and fun presentation is not only visually appealing but also delicious and easy to prepare. In just seven simple steps, you can create a delightful platter that serves as both an appetizer and a centerpiece for your summer gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale:
12 beef or turkey hot dogs (or your preferred type)
1 cup ketchup
1 cup mustard
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup diced strawberries (for red)
1 cup blueberries (for blue)
1 cup mini marshmallows (for white)
12 hot dog buns (regular or gluten-free)
Fresh parsley or cilantro (for decoration)
Instructions
Grill or boil the hot dogs according to package instructions. If grilling, preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 375°F) and cook the hot dogs for about 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally until heated through and marked with grill lines for a perfect presentation. If boiling, simmer in water for about 5-7 minutes, making sure not to let them sit too long to avoid waterlogging.
While the hot dogs are cooking, toast the hot dog buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned. This adds flavor and texture, making them crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. Alternatively, you can toast the buns in a toaster or under a broiler for even heating, watching closely to avoid burning.
On a large serving board or platter, create a horizontal line with the toasted buns. Place them side by side, leaving a small space between each bun to mimic the stripes of the American flag.
Once the hot dogs are cooked, place one hot dog in each bun to create the 'stripes' of the flag. Ensure the hot dogs are centered within the buns for an aesthetically pleasing arrangement.
In the upper left corner of the board, create a square with the diced strawberries and blueberries, alternating colors to form the stars and stripes. Fill in the remaining space with mini marshmallows to represent the white of the flag.
Use ketchup and mustard to drizzle lines or dots over the hot dogs for added color and flavor. Feel free to create patterns that resemble stars and stripes.
Finish the presentation with fresh parsley or cilantro for a touch of greenery, bringing the whole platter together.
